April 14, 201016 yr I just changed out my old parity drive for a larger one it's syncing. But the data drives are displaying as Unformatted. Not right. Also, I'm seeing 57MB/s on the sync. All drives are 7200rpm. Does that seem like it's running too slow?
April 14, 201016 yr just let it run, or stop the array and start it again until your drives show ok, theyre fine, its all running but the web it justr showing you teh wrong thing. dont ever hit format if it says unformatted and you know its not 57MB depends on your disks. older disks are slower than even new green drives.
April 14, 201016 yr Author 57MB depends on your disks. older disks are slower than even new green drives. I know it depends on the disks. That's why I'm asking. The drives are all 7200rpm. I'm thinking it's running slower than it should.

My system will all 7200RPM drives does not average 57MB/s when building parity and that is with all drives on PCI-e buses. A parity check will run much faster.

I'm thinking it's running slower than it should. There is a big difference in speed of writing to a disk vs. reading from it. Since you installed a new parity disk it must be written. That would easily account for a slower speed than if parity was being checked and it was only being read.
April 14, 201016 yr Author Thanks Prostuff1 and Joe L. That makes total sense. Adding a new untried disk made me worry unnecessasarily.

You can stop and re-start the array once the parity calc is completed. That should get the display in sync.
May 14, 201016 yr I had exactly the same error when replacing my parity last night. I stopped and restarted the array and all was fine. Parity is now built with a check running.
