April 15, 201016 yr Hello recently i started getting errors on my cache drive. It's a fairly new drive (about 1 month old) I started getting some syslog errors about allocation. I did a complete format of the cache drive (with preclear script) and remounted it. Now the errors in syslog dissapeared but I do have an error in my smart check, it keeps failing. Here is the result; 5 Reallocated_Sector_Ct 0x0033 082 082 140 Pre-fail Always FAILING_NOW 941 The hard drive works fine, and the smart report has been announcing a Fail for a little over a week. Anyone know what this may be?

Anyone know what this may be? Your drive is failing... It has been re-allocating sectors from its spare pool, and it has allocated enough so it has very few spare sectors left. Yes, it appears as if it is working, but do not fool yourself. It has failed. It is way past time to RMA that drive. You may have a few more spare sectors available for re-allocation, but, not many. You can ignore the errors and continue to use the drive until it crashes completely, but since it is the cache drive it will take with it the only copy of a critical file. Do not be fooled into thinking it is OK, it its NOT. Joe L.
April 15, 201016 yr Author Thanks, it's a WD, i'll see if they can replace it with warranty. I had bought a acer aspire revo as an HTC and grabbed the hard drive out of there to use as cache (I slapped a SDD drive in the acer). I'll check with WD. Thanks again.

It is the drive from the Acer Revo? (I have one of those, just booting it from a flash drive for XBMC. I just checked... it also has a WD drive that is showing no re-allocated sectors after being powered up for just under 800 hours, but then I'm not reading or writing it either.)

Hey yeah, it's the Revo 3610 (320GB HDD). I just put it in a month ago, the drive is not showing warranty with WD, so i might have to engage acer. Unless you think something else might be going on?

You will probably have to go through Acer... (although I'm not too sure what their warranty is on the disk) You might need to swap out the entire Revo unit. I've got the 1600. (I think it has a 160 Gig drive) Joe L.
