April 15, 201016 yr I currently have a home NAS running the Freenas OS with a bunch of old 100-200G sata drives along with two new WD15eads 1.5td in a softraid1. I have been thinking about changing the System over to an Unraid Os for Data security and also the ease of swapping random drives. Getting to the point if I do switch over to UnRaid I want to add at least an additional WD 1.5tb drive for my movies and music which increase in size every week. I have two wb 1.5tb eads drives which use the old 512kb formatting which aren't available anymore they were replaced by the wb15ears which use the new advanced 4b formatting. Does UnRaid support the new format and can i use the two different drives together? or will there be problems? Thanks
April 15, 201016 yr You will not have any problem using the two drives together. I use a mixture of EADS and EARS drives in my server. You MUST install a jumper on any EARS drive on pins 7 & 8 BEFORE installing it into your unRAID server. If you do not, you will see degraded performance and possibly data corruption. EADS drives do not need a jumper, only the EARS drives.
