June 28, 20179 yr Hi all, I wanted to ask, if there are any known issues with unRAID on a Mac mini (mid2010) or any Mac mini thereof. I am using the mac mini as a cloud server a few years now, running owncloud etc. on ubuntu. Trying out unRAID on this Mac mini turned out harder than I thought.. The USB Flash Drive (Sandisk Cruzer Fit, bought as recommended) won't boot, simple as that. I tried 3 different Mac OS versions (10.8.5,10.9.5,10.12.5) a Windows 8.1 version and the currently running ubuntu to get the USB Flash Drive bootable, did the "USB Flash Drive Preparation" w/ unetbootin under MAC OS 10.12.5, even tried all 3 different partition tables out of curiosity. Only hint I have: unetbootin told me at the end of the process "The created USB device will not boot off a Mac. Insert it into a PC, and select the USB boot option in the BIOS boot menu." (see attached pic) Is there anyone out there having a solution to this? Thanks in advance!
June 28, 20179 yr Have you tried the getting started guide already? You'll need to scroll down a bit and expand the Mac OS X section. As for actually booting from it, you will need to (after a reboot) press and hold the Option (⌥) key immediately upon hearing the startup chime.
July 3, 20179 yr Author yes, i did the "getting started guide", I also know how to boot from a usb stick on my Mac - I am currently running ubuntu on this Mac so that had to get onto it somehow but thanks for the attempt! any info still much appreciated!
September 16, 20205 yr Was this ever resolved? I'm having the same issue on a 2008 iMac and a 2014 MacBook Pro.
