is it safe to use networkbridge on a wan connection?

Featured Replies

Hello,

I am testing pfsense on UNRAID. I only have two onboard ethernet connections in my system. Therefor i cannot passthrough the ethernet controller to the vm because they have the same vendor id. Is it safe to connect wan to the ethernetport and connect it through network bridge? or will it be easy to access my system from outside?

Hope you can help :)

You could pass through an individual controller in unRAID even when they have the same Vendor ID.  I've done that with my NICs before.  Also there is a way to put a specific slot in Syslinux.cfg not just vendor IDs.  Sorry but I'm lazy and don't have a link for you to do that but a search should find it eventually.  I just pass the NIC through to the VM and unRAID takes care of dropping it from unRAID and connecting it up to the VM when I start the VM.  The only thing I was careful about was making sure that eth0 when unRAID boots is NOT passed through to a VM just eth1 on my 2 NIC MBs.

As to your other questions I cannot answer that - sorry.
