VM image just disappeared

I have an OSX Sierra image that I use as a daily driver sitting on an NVMe drive under unassigned devices (mounted)

 

I shutdown the VM to up the memory setting and now the disk image is completely gone. VM won't start as it cannot find the image. All my other VM images are there, just somehow this one has been deleted :(

 

Not sure how this can happen?  any ideas?
