Existing disk blue ball

Featured Replies

Hi,

I am using v6.3.5 and one of the drive failed.

However when I try to replace the damage drive, I see an old drive showing up as "blue ball".

I tested the blue ball drive in question on separate computer and it working fine.

So this is what i want to do:

- Resolve blue ball back to green ball

- Using the parity data to recover my original missing drive

Additional information.  Initially Disk4 (blue ball drive) was showing up as "missing".  Now it is not showing that.  When I assign the existing drive, that's when I get the blue ball

Hi -

You should post a Tools -> Diagnostics in order to help diagnose this problem.

Any help will be appreciated.  Should I start a new config and trust the parity drive?

Shame you don't have the logs from when this happened, the ones you posted are after the problem, and I can't how an existing disk would be detected as new without any hardware change.

If you're sure disk4 is the correct one and parity was valid you can try this:

-Tools -> New Config
-assign all disks, including a new disk of the same size to replace the failed disk, double check parity is the parity slot
-check both "parity is already valid" and "maintenance mode" before starting the array
-start the array
-stop array, unassign disk to rebuild
-start array, check emulated disk mounts and contents look correct
-stop array, reassign disk
-start array to begin rebuild
