[Solved] Disabled disk - logs attached

Featured Replies

Hello,

on 10:11 pm today i got an error that my disk 5 failed.

I am fairly certain it is fine though, how can I confirm this please?

A little background:

I recently upgraded some hard drives last week.

I attempted to go from 9 disks to 10 but things started going wrong - disk errors on all drives, disabled, etc...

I attributed it to the fact that running 10 disks + cache and fans was not something my power supply can handle.

I brought it back down to 9 disks, rebuilt the parity and that finished at 7:35 pm

10:11 pm I get an error on disk 5, and now i want to confirm that I don't have a failing drive since i'm back down to my original count

Disk dropped offline so there's no SMART report, you'll need to reboot and grab new diagnostics but it looks more like it was a problem with the SASLP.

Thanks, I actually found the problem. One of the molex cables had a loose pin and it just so happened to be the one connected to Disk 1, 3 & 5 (the ones giving me problems during my hard drive upgades)

I swapped it out and rebuilding the drive (because it had a read and a write error from what I saw in the log).

I might be able to put a 10th drive in afterall.
