Boot to USB Drive

Featured Replies

Hello Everyone,

I have just installed Unraid on my NAS server and I find this software really great!

However can you tell me how to make my server boot all the time on my USB drive? Indeed I am obliged every time I start my server to go into the bios and choose to start on my key so that it starts.

I have configured my USB drive as the first boot device in the order of the boot. But when my server turns on it falls directly into the bios and does not boot my USB drive.

So it's embarrassing because my server can not start alone when I'm not home ...

My hardware is an asus e35m1-m pro with 4gb ram ddr3 and my USB drive is Kingston datatravel 8gb.

Thank you for your information.

Start by going carefully through all of the BIOS settings, looking for the bootup settings.  The reason being is that sometimes the setting(s) can be made in a couple of different places.  Be especially observant when looking for the boot-order in the place where the hard disks are listed.

Having said that, I did have a MB at one time that would automatically default to any new Hard Drive (added to the system) as the default boot device.  This action would delete the unRAID USB from the list of devices to be scanned!  But you do not seem to have this situation...

EDIT:  And try to make your flash drive to be a "hard drive" when you are selecting it as a boot device.  The less it 'looks' like a temporary UBS device the better.
