Hello

I'd like to have a 10GB connection between my unRAID and VMware server. I'm using a HP 1810G-24 ProCurve as my switch and had a peek on Mellanox ConnectX-2 (MNPA10-XT) for both servers.

Should I make a direct connection between my two servers and if so how do I set that up?
 

If I should connect both via switch how do I check if my router works with these cards?

Your HP1810-24G does not support 10G connections via its SFP Slots.

If you were to do a back-to-back link between your ESXi Host and the UnRaid server, you would need to put it on a separate subnet to ensure that the routing isn't affected.

Using the Mellanox cards should be straight forward, especially from the VMWare end, you'll just need to setup a new VMKernel port on the new subnet

When you do the subnet on the two servers, try to avoid putting in a default gateway as this can impact the routing table significantly
