July 26, 20178 yr I think this should be pretty basic but I moved house and have a new router. I'm unable to find my unraid tower on the network. I've tried changing the IP address and gateway in the network configuration and also tried using DHCP but it doesn't seem to work. Am I missing something really obvious?
July 26, 20178 yr Can you see it in your routers Home Page... or use some kind of LanScan app to search your network for it.

No I can't see it I've tried IP address, //tower, looking for tower in the windows network file explorer, tried looking for something familiar in the router setup. Is there anything else that needs to be done when moving networks besides changing the IP address. I tried getting an auto DHCP address but im not sure if it worked.

July 26, 20178 yr You can also try shutting everything down, router, switches, server etc, then restart your router, switches, server, waiting between each for them to connect. Every once in a while I will have to do that because of power loss or something I do that confuses things, it's rare but happens.
July 27, 20178 yr Delete the file network.cfg in folder /config from your flash device and reboot your system. This will let it start with default settings and uses DHCP to obtain an IP address. Make sure your router is set up properly to act as DHCP server.

For this reason, as well as so many others you should have your own router sitting behind or in place of the router you get from your ISP. Then, you don't need to reconfigure your entire network if you move. Also, when changing the network like this netbios names (Windows network names i.e. \\Tower) may not work right away when browsing. There's this whole master browser election that has to happen, caches have to be overwritten, it's pretty dry stuff. Having your own router, using static IPs for appliances and servers help with this greatly.
