Unusual behaviour of files not updating in share folders

Featured Replies

Lets see if I can explain this clearly.

I have two VMs running. A Fedora VM in which I do practically everything, and a Windows VM that I use only to run Microsoft Word.

The issue arises when I edit a file in Microsoft Word that is already on the share drive, and I save it back on the share drive in the same location under the same name. When I access that file on Fedora (to send it by email) I only see the old version of the file (based on the time stamp and when i open it in libreoffice). If access the file from the Windows VM, I see the updated file. Interestingly, when i save it from Microsoft word under a different name in the same share folder, it shows up in the Fedora VM as the new file and there are no problems.

Not really sure if this is an unraid issue or a Fedora issue. I have noticed it on a Debian and an Arch VM as well.

Just thought I would check if anyone has come across anything like this before.

I sounds like you have a file of the same name on 2 different disks involved in the share.

do the VMs read/write to the share or to a data/cache disk involved in the share?

Make sure capitalization of the files is correct. Linux treats Myfile as a different file as myfile. Windows will see both files as the same.
