Can i do Windows 10 linux and Nas in one PC ?

Featured Replies

Hi there this is my PC:

Intel 6800k

Asus X99 A-II

32GB DDR4 3333Mhz

GTX 1080.

Can i create in this PC:

1. windows 10 for gaming.

2. Linux: Fedora 26  probably.

3. NAS server for network storage.

From what i have read i have to install secondary GPU if i want to run the Linux simultaneously with the windows i am right ?

Can this is doable ?

Yes, it should be possible to do what you want to do.  unRAID is NAS software with built in support for Dockers and Virtual Machines (VMs).  You would run unRAID on your system, and bring up VMs for Windows and Fedora.  Your system appears capable of IOMMU/VT-d hardware passthrough so gaming should be possible.  You would need to add a GPU for each VM where you want to directly connect a monitor (i.e., the gaming VM).

I'd recommend giving it a try with the unRAID trial license.  Back up all your critical data first, though,

Can i run Linux and windows same time with 1 monitor  and switch between them ?

Or do i need 2 monitors ?

I can put low level GPU lets say geforce 710 for the Linux and hook it up on same monitor but throw HDMI and windows with Display port and switch via the monitor menu.

A solution if 2 monitor needed and i dont want to put 2.

Yes, that would work.  Or, you could just RDP over the network into the Linux VM and drop the need for a GPU altogether.
