EE-ATX WTF LOL!

Featured Replies

Strike two for me on motherboard purchase (first was before i knew I wanted UnraidOS).  Researched for weeks then finally settled on a SuperMicro x9DRi-LNF4+ with the help of MrRackables.  Didn't catch the guy's name, but he was very helpful and patient with me, as this is my first build and I'm making this up as I go.  I saw that it was EE-ATX, but I have chased down weird formats of things before and didn't think it would be a big deal.  Board is on its way I think, but now I am discovering that this is apparently a proprietary SM format that will fit only SM chassis.  I will try to catch them later today to see if they can hold off shipping.

I have looked into things like the SM 745TQ, but i wasn't planning on spending $300+ on a case.  Size/appearance don't matter as it will live in a basement dungeon.  Noise isnt too important either, but I don't want a 747 taking off.  Any other options for an EE-ATX board?

I have posted my goals before, but this will primarily be used for SageTV and several extenders, media NAS to replace a WHS box, at least one Win10 VM for driver passthrough, and possibly another to replace a kitchen counter win10 terminal (long hdmi/usb runs). Have already purchased 2x e5-2660 v2, having convinced myself that they were the right price point but more power efficient than v1. Still probably way overkill, but I would rather spend a little more now not yet knowing exactky what all I want this thing to do, rather than realizing things will have to wait until the next overhaul (8 years since the last one).
