francrouge
Hi, I got few questions. i'm new to unraid I will explain to all what is my setup first. Unraid Pc ASRock - Z270 Gaming K6 Intel® Core™ i3-7100 CPU @ 3.90GHz 16 GB ram DDR4 1 x 8TB Parity 1 x 8TB Array 4 x 4TB Array 1 x 256 Go Cache Plex / Download pc Dell T3500 Intel Xeon 3530 18 Go ram 1 x 3TB Movies 1 x 3TB tv series 1 x 2TB Torrent download / Temp (to be organize and moved away in correct hdd) Questions: With the nas I can't get more than 9 mo/s. Shared drive is configured with cache as yes. When the cache is full the transfert should still continue directly to hdd ? if not what i can check. I would like to use my dell t3500 for transcoding plex and downloading only. I made some test with movies i put in unraid. Files are reading correctly take sometimes to start. But i would like to know because when the file is called by plex it is directly copied over ethernet. So its the hdd that are working and not my sdd in unraid. Is there a way to specifed that or it is not going to use hdd faster ? If i only want to keep my unraid pc with plex. Should it be able to handle docker etc. I check cpu benchmark and it is practically same thing. I can clarify more my questions if i'm not clear. Thank you Edited August 2, 2017 by francrouge Quote Link to comment
Zonediver
Plex is doing the Transcode on the machine where the Plex-Server is installed and not on an other machine. And what is 9mo/s The i3-7100 gives you aprox. 6200 passmarks. It can transcode 4x 720p or 3x 1080p with no reserve for the Server itself. So you can transcode 3x 720p or 2x 1080p at the same time. francrouge
okay thx so if my t3500 is my "plex server" and my other pc my nas / unraid. when i'm playing a movie my t3500 send a request to my nas . my question is where the movie get copied ?does it been readed from my nas directly with hdd or my cache ssd ?thxEnvoyé de mon Pixel XL en utilisant Tapatalk Quote Link to comment
Zonediver
It depends. On the Server side: Transcoded Files will be temporary stored on the cache SSD. At direct stream, the SSD is not involved so the movie will be played from your HDD. On the Client side: All streamed content goes directly to the RAM - as far as i know. Just to clarify: If unRAID is installed on your T3500, the Plex-Server is also on this machine - The Plex-Server is a Docker-Plugin for unRAID. So the t3500 "IS" your NAS Edited August 2, 2017 by Zonediver Quote Link to comment
francrouge
actually my unraid is running on my i3 and my t3500 only got plex installed with ssd for metadata and ssd for temps so you think if im transcoding the movie will ben sent to my ssd on my t3500 or on the ssd on the i3 thx a lotEnvoyé de mon Pixel XL en utilisant Tapatalk Quote Link to comment
Zonediver
What you have done is not really a good solution. Plex should run on the unraid-machine - thats the best way. The advantage is when your NAS is running, Plex is also automaticly running so there is no need for a second PC/machine to host the Plex-Server. In your case the Plex-Machine (t3500) is taking the file from your NAS (i3) over LAN and then transcode the file to the SSD on the t3500 (if you use Transcoding). If someone is watching Plex then the t3500 sends the content to the client over the LAN again. So you have a lot of LAN-traffic without a special need. Install the Plex-Server to unraid and all is fine. Edited August 2, 2017 by Zonediver Quote Link to comment
francrouge
i think you're right. i will do that.do you have any recommandation for plex docker ? or there is just one built ?thank you so muchEnvoyé de mon Pixel XL en utilisant Tapatalk Quote Link to comment
Zonediver
I use the Plex-Docker from linuxserver.io You can install it over the Docker Tap on the unraid Web-GUI. Be aware you must reconstruct your Plex database. Quote Link to comment

skyline7349
You should use the plex docker from the actual company. Plex has their own docker. Ive been using it for a while and never any issues. Also i feel like you should scrap the I3 server and just do everything with that Xeon server. For what youre doing its more then powerful enough Quote Link to comment
