Odysseus
Hello All I've been running UnRaid off an old P4 tower as a test, Only 2 sata 1.5 ports so on 2 drives running. I like the Software so it's now time to build a real Unraid Server! I was going to follow the recommended Budget Box, But its hard find the Biostar A760 M2+ Board for sale not on backorder. (live in toronto) Goals AN Array of 12-14 drives in total (Right now only need about 5-6 drives but that will grow) S3 or some other power saving mode. 1 Button Shutdown I know I Have to use code for this. WOL Headless Use this Build as a torrent machine too. So this is the build am thinking of. ASUS M4A78L-M Coolermaster STB-3T4-E3 3X5.25IN X2 Corsair VX450 450W ATX 12V 33A 24PIN ATX Coolermaster Centurion 590 ATX AMD Sempron 140 Processor 2.7GHZ Kingston ValueRAM KVR800D2N5/2G PC2-6400 2GB Hard drives, so far I have 4X WD 1.5 TB 1X WD 1 TB plan on get s 2TB for parity as all future hard drive buys will be 2TB drives When required I will get a Supermicro Add-on Card AOC-SASLP-MV8 plus break out cables. My only questions are 1) Will this build meet my goals ? 2) Can I use the supermicro card with this Board in the Pcie X 16 slot ? 3) Can I run this board headless? can't find it in the manual Thanks in advance for all your replies and suggestions. WOL Headless Use this Build as a torrent machine too. All of these are doable you will just have to mess around with them to get them installed and running the way you like So this is the build am thinking of. ASUS M4A78L-M Coolermaster STB-3T4-E3 3X5.25IN X2 Corsair VX450 450W ATX 12V 33A 24PIN ATX Coolermaster Centurion 590 ATX AMD Sempron 140 Processor 2.7GHZ Kingston ValueRAM KVR800D2N5/2G PC2-6400 2GB Hard drives, so far I have 4X WD 1.5 TB 1X WD 1 TB plan on get s 2TB for parity as all future hard drive buys will be 2TB drives All those parts should work just fine. When you get to 14 drives you may be hitting the top for that PSU. It's not so much that the PSU can't work when the server is running but during startup you might have problems with 14 drives attached. The motherboard should work just fine also. 1) Will this build meet my goals ? Should be able to. S3 may be a little tricky to get working but you should be able to. Just update the board to the latest BIOS before you start doing other things. 2) Can I use the supermicro card with this Board in the Pcie X 16 slot ? That is something you will have to ask the board manufacturer. Send an email off to ASUS and see what they say. 3) Can I run this board headless? can't find it in the manual The board has built in graphics so you will not need a graphics card. Link to comment
