Sanity check for first unraid build

Featured Replies

Hi,

After a long time reading the forum and watching youtube videos on Unraid, I am going to jump right in a build my first unraid server.

I was used to put together my own PCs back in the days so the build part itself is not a problem. I want to start with some tests using a HDD and a SSD I have before building (ordering) the storage devices. I also have a ATX chassis that I plan to re use.

I want to be able to replace my old synology NAS as well my old Windows PC by a gaming VM so Graphics Card pass-through is a must.

I will also run few work VMs (security devices such as UTM) and some dockers (Plex to start with).

Thus far my part list is:

  • Supermicro X10DRL-i Intel C612 2x So.2011-3
  • Intel Xeon E5-2620v4
  • Supermicro SNK-P0050AP4
  • 8GB Samsung M393A1G40EB1 DDR4-2400 (4 of those)

The idea of using a dual processor motherboard is for the setup to be upgradeable for exemple if I need to add a second gaming VM on the same rig.

Thanks in advance for your support.
