August 17, 20178 yr I'm curious about purchasing a used workstation or server and am curious what some of the latest recommendations are. For starters, what are some good recommendations for: 1) Single stream transcoding 2) 6 SATA or more 3) Xeon grade processor 4) Let's say no more than 5 years old
August 17, 20178 yr Dell TXXX servers usually have 4-6 sata ports and xeon procs. I have a few older ones doing multiple duty from storage to vm/storage. Passmark over 3500 and you should be set. Note: some of the Txxxx servers only have spaces for 4 hard drives. Some have hot swap bay for 6.

August 18, 20178 yr Also: http://www.marmaxcomputers.com/img/240517113808dell_precision_t3500.pdf only 4 internal bays, but the trick with this one is if you lose the cd drives, you have room for 2-3 more drives. Again, might be older than your specifications.
