Battery Backup Failure

Featured Replies

Having some issues lately as the storm is causing major power outages here. A few months ago I replaced the battery in my Cyberpower 825AVR UPS. Prior to this it worked perfectly. Recently though if I lose power to the house the UPS just cuts power to the server. UPS stays on but the server shuts off completely. Not sure if this is a hardware issue with the UPS or an issue with the APC UPS plugin in unRAID. unRAID shows communication with the UPS and it says it has 100% charge and plenty of time runtime on the battery. I can start the server on the battery power and let it boot up but as soon as I pull the plug it cuts power to the server completely. Not sure what is causing this to happen. Could use some help diagnosing this problem, not very familiar with UPS hardware or the plugin.

Why don't you test this UPS with a 150W lamp load rather than your server?  See if it will run the lamp load for three of four minutes.

I would also be a bit reluctant to put much faith in that value of 'Runtime left' number.  That is a bit of a SWAG. (A technical term for a wild guess)  I would also be setting that 'Time on Battery...' parameter to something like 30 seconds if you expect to have any battery left for the next time the power goes out.  (Recharge time is 8-20 hours for most UPS's!)

Thanks I'll give that a try. Just not sure what the problem is because it was working fine before.
