September 2, 20178 yr Hey, After a lot of deliberation, I've decided to give unRAID a go. So this is my first post here! I've given away my old NAS to family and I'm starting from scratch, I would be very grateful for some build advice and tips. Here is what I've come up with so far: PCPartPicker part list CPU: AMD - Ryzen 3 1200 3.1GHz Quad-Core ProcessorMotherboard: ASRock - AB350M Pro4 Micro ATX AM4 Motherboard Memory: Kingston - ValueRAM 8GB (1 x 8GB) DDR4-2133 Memory Storage: Western Digital - Red 8TB 3.5" 5400RPM Internal Hard Drive Storage: Western Digital - Red 8TB 3.5" 5400RPM Internal Hard Drive Case: Fractal Design - Define Mini MicroATX Mini Tower Case Power Supply: Silverstone - Strider Platinum 550W 80+ Platinum Certified Fully-Modular ATX Power Supply - SanDisk 16GB CZ43 Ultra Fit USB 3.0 Flash Pen Drive Memory Stick (unRAID)How I want to use the system: Plex Server 2-4 clients VMs Sonarr, Radarr and SABnzbd File Server Perhaps a GPU in the future, but unlikely unless there is some benefit Questions: I'm considering an SSD as a cache drive, would this be recommended for optimal system performance? I currently have ECC RAM on the list, is it definitely worthwhile with an unRAID build? Becuase it's difficult to find Unbuffered DDR4 ECC RAM here for some reason. Will this system be suitable for my usage requirements? Can you think of any better build recommendations around a similar price point? I already have the NAS drives I'm also from Australia so there is limited access to server seconds Any general tips you would have liked to know when you did your first unRAID install and system build? Thank you in advance! I look forward to completing this build in the near future and giving unRAID a go.
September 3, 20178 yr Hello and welcome. Have you read the various Ryzen threads? This is a very promising platform, but it is new and there have been issues, especially with pass-through.
September 3, 20178 yr Not a critical item, but there's really no need to get a USB3 drive. Even if you do, you'll want to plug it into a USB2 port on the machine. Using a USB3 port usually leads to all sorts of issues for people.

I have already ordered a USB3 unfortunately. I will remember to put it in a USB2 slot though! Thank you mate On 9/3/2017 at 10:51 AM, tdallen said: Hello and welcome. I've been reading all the Ryzen threads I can, here and elsewhere. Seems like a fair few people are having success now
