September 4, 20178 yr My disk1 (ST8000DM004-2CX188_WCT02WAD (sdh)) was disabled sometime during the night. Stopped the array this morning when I saw the error, but can't get it to show up. Tried installing it in several different drive bays. What's next? It's a brand new drive and I'm not really ready to just give up on it. brunnhilde-diagnostics-20170904-0835.zip
September 4, 20178 yr If the disk is not detected on another bay with different cables then it's dead, check if it's detected in the bios.
September 4, 20178 yr Author Finally got the disk to reappear (had to remove preclear plugin), won't mount though. Looks like some FS corruption maybe? The report from the file system check is attached. Not sure if I should run a correction? file_system_check.txt

I'm guessing there must be some issue with the preclear plugin preventing disks from appearing in UD. https://forums.lime-technology.com/topic/44104-unassigned-devices-managing-disk-drives-outside-of-the-unraid-array/?page=57#comment-587718
September 4, 20178 yr Preclear plugin shouldn't prevent the disk by being detect by unRAID, there wasn't even a SMART report, post a SMART report or new diags.

There is some discussion of the preclear/UD problem here. Couldn't get a SMART report. Maybe because the disk won't mount? New diagnostics attached. brunnhilde-diagnostics-20170904-0952.zip

There's probably more Seagate drives out there, because they're generally a few dollars/pounds cheaper than the WD/HGST equivalent. So, yes, there's going to be more apparent problems with them. I run 50/50 Seagate/WD, and over the past few years I've had to RMA one Seagate and 4 WD. The WD RMA process was shockingly bad (they replaced a 5TB Red with a 4TB Blue, took 3 months and eventually swapped for a 5TB Purple). Edited September 5, 20178 yr by HellDiverUK
September 5, 20178 yr Author What about this drive? It's old I know, but I was thinking about reinstalling it. Is it too old to trust? DriveDxReport2017-09-05_08-41-02-163.txt
