Unraid 6.3.1 parity has errors, read "readme" and came here first before touching anything!

Featured Replies

I am a good monkey and followed directions.

Unraid 6.3.1

I run automatic monthly parity checks (1st of month)

I haven't rebooted or touched anything and came here first before I proceed.

I have attached zip file as "readme" instructed.

I am a noob.

Questions:

1) What is problem?

2) Did I lose data?

3) How and what to do to fix anything?

4) Other than monthly parity checks is there anything else I should do as preventative measures?

I appreciate assistance, happy holiday

SMART for parity shows a pending sector, so likely a disk issue, you can confirm by doing an extended SMART test.

Tried extended SMART test and where it says "Last SMART test result: Errors occurred - check SMART report". It took about 10 seconds for that to show up and couldn't finish past the 10% mark on the SMART test. Tried it multiple times and anywhere from 7-10 seconds just came back to "Errors occurred" message.

I added another diagnostics report after attempting to run extended SMART report but I don't believe it did anything? You guys are experts so I have no idea.

If it is bad parity drive...guess I can go shopping for new drive? If that is the case I was thinking of upgrading total size of disk from 2TB to 4TB. If I understand correctly I could replace the 2TB parity drive with a 4TB drive and have no benefit until one of my data drives is upgraded from 2TB to 4TB, yes? So to see benefit I would have to get (2) 4TB drives...1 for parity and 1 to upgrade size of 1 of the data drives? As time goes on 1 by 1 I could upgrade my 2TB drives to 4TB drives as they get old and fail, correct?

What are my next steps?

Thank you for assistance

SMART test failed with a read failure, disk has bad sectors, I recommend replacing it, you can also try to re-sync parity to see if the bad sectors are remapped, but even if they are there could be more soon, up to you.

Understood....time for new replacement parity drive.

Am I correct in my understanding of upgrading from 2TB to 4TB drives?

Thank you for help
