April 29, 201016 yr It's a issue everyone has, it just depends on how many small files you have. It's been an issue for around a year (Ever since Windows 7) Transfer a game with tons of files off your server, Grand Theft Auto 4 for example, and youll be constantly spammed with "to many files currently in use". I know 3 people with the latest unRAID that all suffer from this, so i'm pretty sure its a widespread issue. Right now I have to sit at my computer and constantly press "Try Again" for a hour in order to get this game off my server, and onto my computer. Backing up my Steam games is just a huge pain.
April 29, 201016 yr Hmm, I've never seen this.. How many files are we talking about? How are you copying the files? To what OS?
April 29, 201016 yr whatever youre using to copy with isnt closing its connections. you can actually hitting the half open connection limit of windows itself too. no issues with this here either, bu tyou can increase the max open file limit which is like, already hueg by default.
April 29, 201016 yr I have not had this issue. As far as I have read on the forums isn't it only Windows 7 people having this problem? Looks like a Windows 7 issue to me. Also, there are changes you can make to the amount of open files allowed in Linux and Samba, have you tried those methods to resolve your issue?

That's what we all use. I have tried those methods, but it still doesn't help. Hmm, I've never seen this.. How many files are we talking about? How are you copying the files? To what OS? GTA IV + DLC = 9,123 files, 406 folders, 31.6GB I've tried both Teracopy and the default file transfer method on Windows 7, both do it. After I get the method I have to wait a good 30 seconds before I can hit "retry" otherwise it'll just error out again. I have to keep doing this every 30 seconds or so until the transfer is complete.
April 29, 201016 yr Yes I have this problem with Windows 7 and unraid also. I got around it by using Teracopy but the problem is eventually I want all the PCs in the house to once a week run a script and backup their user folders to the unraid. I'm scared this bug is going to keep it from working when the time gets to implementing it.
April 29, 201016 yr tyrindor, I know this isn't a fix for the issue, but as a work-around for your Steam backup, you should be using the built-in Steam backup to produce the backup images. You'll have better luck moving DVD-sized ISO images to the unRAID server than thousands of tiny little files.

You'll have better luck moving DVD-sized ISO images to the unRAID server than thousands of tiny little files. That feature doesn't backup DLC and other features of the game. It also triples the time compared to simply just transfering the files over. Space isn't an issue, so I don't need them compressed. I did this with Borderlands right before reformating my computer, and I was greated with a 7GB download because the DLC wasn't backed up. I simply don't trust their backup feature, i've had huge issues with it.
April 29, 201016 yr The DLC or mods is the same problem I see with Torchlight under Steam and the same problem indicated with Too Many Files. It's definitely frustrating to the point that I stopped playing and adding mods to Torchlight for now which is a shame, its a fun time killer for me That said...while it isn't specifically an unRAID problem....I also don't have this problem when I backed up to the Drobo at the office as a test over the network.
April 29, 201016 yr For what its worth, I noticed this problem while copying some directories with mainly a whole bunch of word documents and photos from a Win7 machine to an unRAID share. I'm interested in a fix for this, whether its in Win7 or unRAID.
April 29, 201016 yr Author http://lime-technology.com/forum/index.php?topic=5004.msg46112#msg46112 Tried all that.
April 30, 201016 yr problem isnt with unraid then, use something more graceful/elegant to transfer iv enever hit the problem and i do multi thousand moves that are 1.5TB+ to my unraid no problems from vista and 7.
