Dashboard "light" for unassigned device (grey/blue)

On my Dashboard, my one drive which is unassigned has a rounded-rectangle indicator light in the Unassigned row. Oddly, sometimes it's grey; other times it's blue.

 

I can't find any documentation on what that light is supposed to mean.

 

Any ideas?
