Diagnostic Suggestion

Featured Replies

Tom -

You might consider providing a mkreiserfs replacement program that logs the attempt and parameters but doesn't actually format anything.  Such a setup could be used by community members in a diagnostic mode to help you debug the problem and capture a useful syslog without the fear factor.

To be honest, I would need something like that to exercise unRAID a few times before fully trusting that button again.  If I were to add a disk tomorrow, I would likely do THIS instead of pressing the format button.

Just an FYI, I doubt mkreiserfs will allow you to format a mounted filesystem.

I have not tried it, but I know mkextfs would not allow it.

I believe if the system is up and your regular disks are mounted, you will be safe.

I might be able to test it on Sunday.

Right, the 'mkreiserfs' program will fail on a mounted device.

Thanks for the clarification, but understand it is not wholely satisfying.  At least one user claims he had experience with the format-every-disk bug affected (apparently) mounted disks. Although unlikely, some errent bug could be unmounting disks after the format button is pressed (or some other oddity could be occurring that has yet to be determined).

Tom - I think the 4.5.3-TEST version will be a big help in getting the input you need!
