Moved Plex from Windows to Unraid it quit starting after a day

I posted this over on the Plex forum this morning with only 2 views, so I thought I'd cross post it here...

I followed the support document moving installations to the letter and initially everything went well. The dashboard at first started crashing so I started running library database optimize after every refresh, this worked but while the library database was optimizing plex would not let you connect. Now it crashed and won't restart and seems to be stuck on "Starting", see docker log below. Another issue since the beginning is that it takes a while to stop Plex and I'd get an execution error.

I'm running the most current version of the Official Plex Docker and have my config folder on an SSD using Unassigned Drives. Transcoding is on another SSD also unassigned. I have a large database currently being moved to the array, also using Unassigned drives two disks at a time using rsync. The only other Dockers I have installed are Krusader, PlexyPy, and Netdata.

I tried moving only the database and preferences over to a new folder and it was running ok for a while overnight while I was refreshing metadata but it crashed again this morning and again won't start.

When I setup a new config folder the docker runs fine and the whole setup runs etc. I just REALLY don't want to start from scratch, please help!

Plex Media Server Log

The last log was 2MB so a decent size, let me know if you need me to post the whole thing.

My Setup

  • Unraid 6.3.5
  • AMD FX8350 Black processor
  • 16GB of RAM
  • Latest Official Plex Docker

Things I've tried

  • Optimize Library Database after each library refresh (Note this makes the server unavailable while running)
  • Tested the database for corruption, its ok
  • Tried Linuxserver.io version and same issue

What flags are you using with rsync?

rsync -aHAXvhW --no-compress --progress --info=progress2 --stats --ignore-existing

I found it while looking up how to move data. So forgive me if this is weird.

The rsync flags are fine for everything.  Only thing I can possibly think of is something getting lost in translation between the source NTFS and the destination XFS/BTRFS.

Normally I'd say bite the bullet and start it all over again and see how it goes, unless your custom artwork / watched status / etc is very important to you.  If the latter, wait for the developers of Plex to give you a response.

Good Point! Maybe if I move my database over to Appdata in the cache I can try again and see what happens. It's just that moving a plex database is such an annoyance. I think its around 3 Million files.

While I have your attention though can you point me to a good Unrarer? I have a 100GB database backup rar on my cache and I tried using Krusader and it said "Stalled" then I googled everywhere and all the posts seem to talk about torrent applications. Would love a command to tell it to unrar into a folder named after itself.

So everything is moved now and it was actually Rsync causing the problem. Doing multiple transfers at once was causing issues with Plex. I noticed it once when Plex wouldnt close and kept erroring out so I stopped my rsync disk to disk transfers because I planned on stopping the array. Once I stopped rsync Plex immediately stopped and started with no problems.

I decided not to run Plex while moving data and now have it setup and everything is working as its supposed to. No more crashes etc...

I do have a cache problem but made a separate post about that.
