September 11, 20178 yr Check the data cables and power cables to the "ata1.00" drive. But without your diagnostics I don't know what drive that is.
September 20, 20178 yr Author I re-seated all my SATA cables, didnt have the error for a few days, and now I get it again. September 20, 20178 yr Author OK I'll replace them all. Can anyone recommend any really good secure SATA cables?
September 20, 20178 yr Author Thanks will take a look. I got the Akasa ProSlim latching ones, guess I need to change them

September 20, 20178 yr Author Yup just looking there, thinking of getting these: https://www.amazon.co.uk/eBoot-Cable-Locking-Latch-90-Degree-Blue/dp/B01HXM5J5S/ref=sr_1_4?ie=UTF8&qid=1505912434&sr=8-4&keywords=90+sata I can find monoprice ones, but its like £20 each plus £15 delivery so guess coming from US of A.
September 23, 20178 yr Author So this is still an issue. I've replaced SATA cables, reseated old cables, and bought totally new SATA cables and still getting the same messages: Sep 22 19:29:57 Odin kernel: ata1.00: exception Emask 0x0 SAct 0x0 SErr 0x0 action 0x6 frozen Sep 22 19:29:57 Odin kernel: ata1.00: cmd 78/00:00:00:00:00/00:00:00:00:00/40 tag 2 Sep 22 19:29:57 Odin kernel: res 40/00:00:00:00:00/00:00:00:00:00/40 Emask 0x4 (timeout) Sep 22 19:29:57 Odin kernel: ata1.00: status: { DRDY } Sep 22 19:29:57 Odin kernel: ata1: hard resetting link Sep 22 19:30:01 Odin rc.diskinfo[28222]: process started. Thing is 2 fold. 1) I've seen this on ata2 aswell, but mainly ata1 2) Its a new board, so if it is dud, then I want to replace it. I'll move all sata ports later and monitor for a few days.
September 23, 20178 yr Author Lastly ATA1 would be my parity drive correct? [1:0:0:0] disk ATA ST8000VN0022-2EL SC61 /dev/sdb /dev/sg1 state=running queue_depth=1 scsi_level=6 type=0 device_blocked=0 timeout=30 dir: /sys/bus/scsi/devices/1:0:0:0 [/sys/devices/pci0000:00/0000:00:17.0/ata1/host1/target1:0:0/1:0:0:0] sdb = parity... does this make any diff as it isnt really used?
September 23, 20178 yr This issue may also be power supply related, especially when it happen to multiple disks.
September 23, 20178 yr 15 minutes ago, SavellM said: Lastly ATA1 would be my parity drive correct? If sdb is parity yes, you can also search your syslog from the beginning for ATA1, 2nd or 3rd result will have the disk and its serial number
September 23, 20178 yr You can also click on the "disk icon" of the device on the Main page, and see if the error is listed in the popup window.
September 23, 20178 yr Author Parity ST8000VN0022-2EL112_ZA15RYS2 - 8 TB (sdb) I do see: Hardware ECC recovered - 4793632 Command timeout - 21475164165 Seek error rate - 69985788 Raw read error rate - 4793632 All my drive are reporting these values pretty high so not sure if its showing any actual errors. The ones listed to be notified about are on 0 Did a short smart test and nada, no errors. Doing an extended one now. Not sure what else to check

September 23, 20178 yr Author Ok new PSU cables, and new connection to the PSU. Moved all the SATA cables 1 slot over, leaving slots 1/2 free. I'll let it run for a few days and see.
September 25, 20178 yr Author Nope happened again today after another few days... This time its ata3 as i moved everything 1 sata port over. Wondering if its my drive now I've tried new psu cables, new psu ports, new sata cables, moved sata cables. Same drive over and over. Although it did happen ONCE on another drive... RMA drive, is this enough to go on?
September 26, 20178 yr Whenever I've RMA'd a drive they never asked any questions. It does mean however the next person to RMA a drive might get yours. This is why I always use the RMA'd drive as an offline backup if I get a re manufactured drive. Don't want someone else's bad drive. If you are lucky they won't have any re manufactured drives available and they send you a new one. That has happened to me too and THOSE I use in my array just not the re manufactured ones.
