Not able to add data to shares

Featured Replies

Current server version 6.3.5

I added some files not ten minutes before I tried to move another set and now I'm getting this error. I can still edit existing files, and I tried to write to different disks to the same error every time.

I've power-cycled the router, restarted both my computer and server.

What I found I can do is add the folder I was trying to add within a folder on the share, but not to the share folder itself? What I also found is that I tried creating a folder to the share from an another computer and I can?

So I found a work around, but I want to know what's happening so I can fix it.

I have read this about six times now and I am still confused about what you tried to do and how you went about doing it.  Could you break this down into a series of step-by-step lists of what worked and what didn't work?   And tell us what your PC OS is which version you are using.

I did look at your share permissions and I don't see any reason for an issue there.

I could paste the folder I wanted to move inside a preexisting folder creating a sub folder, but not directly into the share folder itself.

I was able to add a folder to the share folder from my MacBook with no problem.

My windows 10 PC is getting the error.

OK, I just tested using my Windows 7 computer to my Test Bed server.  This is what I did:

First, I created a new share on the server and named it   Test

Then  I went to Network and double clicked on the server which showed all of my shares on that sever.  I selected a folder did a drag-and-drop unto the share icon.  It copied the file to the root of the share.

I then selected an other folder and did an drag-and-drop to a Windows Explorer window that showed the contents of the root of my Test share.  That also worked.

If this is what you did, it may be that it may be a Win10 thing

Second, I did try a control-C (copy) and a control-V (paste) of a folder but that did not work unless I was inside of the share folder. And I actually had to have a selection highlighted in the folder itself for the operation to succeed.    But I seem to recall that always has been the case with the Windows OS's.

If you are still having an problem, give a really, really detailed description of what you are doing so my non-tech 95 year-old mother could duplicate your exact steps.
