May 2, 201016 yr Just been moving doing a overall cleaning/reassignment of drives the past few weeks....Had to remove/replace drives. Found out last night I had to replace my entire motherboard (C2SEA) because I noticed that there was a good sized char mark down by the IDE control chip. So, replaced mobo with my previous board. Did all the necessary precautions, hooked up the drives. Got this screen that all looked ok. [/img] I tried to click on START, but it just thinks for a minute, then I get back to the same screen where it says - Configuration Valid, Array is offline. I was very tempted to click on restore, but after several reboots now, and no change, I just want to be sure before anything. Ive had enough mishaps the past few weeks. Ive clicked on start many times, now, rebooted, and still get the same result. I am very hesitant to click on the restore button since its been made perfectly clear that rarely it should be done, and only if you know what you are doing. Well, I dont so.....help? If someone needs it, I attached syslog as well. syslog-2010-05-02.txt
May 2, 201016 yr I had a similar issue until I noticed that the start button was grayed out and that there was a check box below it that wanted to be checked before the start button became active. This was on the unRaid web page, not the unMenu web page
May 2, 201016 yr I don't think that "restore" will help. (nor do I think is it the right thing to do in this situation) Your syslog shows: May 2 14:05:20 gfmedia kernel: md7: import: scsi_inquiry (std inquiry) error: -14 May 2 14:05:20 gfmedia kernel: md7: import: scsi_inquiry (vpd: unit ser no) error: -14 May 2 14:05:20 gfmedia kernel: md: import disk7: [8,0] (sda) <no model> <no serial_no> offset: 63 size: 976551904 May 2 14:05:20 gfmedia kernel: md8: import: scsi_inquiry (std inquiry) error: -14 May 2 14:05:20 gfmedia kernel: md8: import: scsi_inquiry (vpd: unit ser no) error: -14 May 2 14:05:20 gfmedia kernel: md: import disk8: [8,32] (sdc) <no model> <no serial_no> offset: 63 size: 488270816 Disk 6 and 7 have no model and serial number? This is not right... They are needed to track disk changes. and also May 2 14:07:11 gfmedia kernel: md: do_run: lock_rdev error: -6 and May 2 14:07:35 gfmedia kernel: 3w-9xxx: scsi1: ERROR: (0x03:0x0101): Invalid command opcode:opcode=0x85. The source code in md.c that prints the error is /* lock partition 1 */ err = lock_rdev(rdev, rdev->dev + 1); if (err) { printk("md: do_run: lock_rdev error: %d\n", err); return err; /* partition not present */ } Based on that error, I'd say you may have one of your disk controllers in a RAID mode, and the partition 1 is not visible to unRAID, or, you assigned the parity drive to a data drive slot (and it has no partition) Joe L.
May 2, 201016 yr Author Hmmm. Yes i do see that greyed out box you refer to, but it appears that it is for the restore button. I'll double check when I get home in 10 mins. Yes, Joe- I actually posted an inquiry as to whether that 3w syslog error was something to be cocerned about. A few oter users had the same issue and there really wasn't a resolution on it as of yet. See here http://lime-technology.com/forum/index.php?topic=6225.0 I've currently got 3 drives connected to my controller - 2 of which you pointed out and the other not being on the array as of yet. Does this mean I should halt and figure out the issue with my 3wate card? I think I may have enough remaining slots on my mobo to connect tht way.

Yes, there is no checkbox below start in this case since all the disks match those expected. Yes, I think that is the reason the array will not start. Joe L.
May 2, 201016 yr Author Its just odd, thats all....Ive had the setup for 3-4 days now and this is the first time I cannot get it online. Nothing really happened other than a reboot. Will do.
