6.4.0-rc9f - Was watching Plex and server just froze, had to hard reset, never happened before

Featured Replies

Not sure if it has anything to do with the update yesterday, but this has never happened before. Server just froze. I could only take a picture of the screen before the hard reboot.

Yes.

Well you know there are lots of reports of Ryzen instability.  That makes it hard to separate what might be a cpu/hw issue vs. some kind of s/w issue in unRaid.  That's the main reason we try and keep up with latest kernels.  In release notes for -rc9f I wrote:

We're at the end of life for linux kernel 4.12. Next release will move to 4.13 kernel.

We wanted to move to 4.13 asap in order to see if Ryzen issues got better, but I made the decision to stick on 4.12 where it's last patch release corresponded with this release of unRAID.  We go through a lot of testing after updating kernel minor releases and I didn't want to delay this unraid release further.

I guess the bottom line is: we'll try and get these -rc's out faster with updated components.

I built this about a month or so ago and put UnRaid on it. The first day or two I had instability issues trying to get those damn temperatures to show lol,  but updating to  v6.4rc7a fixed the stability. I haven't messed with c-state or any of that and the only new thing that has happened is I put a Mellanox card in it last week for a DAC connection. It did hang instead of a reboot yesterday as well, but I forgot to look at the screen before rebooting so I didn't post about it.

If there's anything I can run in the background or anything to monitor and try to help diagnose it, let me know.
