btrfs Batch Dedupe

Featured Replies

Is the use of any of the batch deduplicators for btrfs volumes been tested or supported when the volume is part of an unraid array.  Thinking of one of the solutions mentioned on this wiki page for btrfs. https://btrfs.wiki.kernel.org/index.php/Deduplication

Thanks,

Chris

AFAIK no one has tested or even really talked about de-dup. I dont know much about btrfs features in general, but i would hazard a guess that the usefulness would be hampered by the fact that unRAID uses separate btrfs file-systems for each disk.

It should work the same as any other btrfs filesystem, but like preval_gofl mentioned, each array data disk is a separate filesystem, so it will only work for data on the same hard disk.
