September 30, 20178 yr I have been using (on recommendation from someone here) this 2-port Startech SATA controller: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B003GS8VA4/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o02_s00?ie=UTF8&th=1 It's called 2x SATA III on this page, and is for a PCI. The information on the web page is unclear, but my motherboard info indicates I have a "PCI Express 2.0 x1" slot. I would like to add 1-2 more SATA ports, mainly so I can add another drive to convert from reiserfs to xfs. I've tried other techniques, but this seems the safest (add a drive not part of the array, copy to that drive, make that drive part of the array, remove the old drive from the array, repeat). I ordered the 4-port version of this, but it does not fit into my "PCI Express 2.0 x1" slot. The info for this says "4 AHCI SATA III (6Gbps) ports through PCI Express x2". The info for the 3-port version also says something similar ("a PCI Express x2 slot"). I assume then that there is a "PCI Express 2.0 x1" slot and a newer "PCI Express x2 slot"? Is there a 3-4 port SATA controller for either of the ports I have available, which are my "PCI Express 2.0 x1" slot and a "PCI Express 2.0 x16" slot? Thank you.
September 30, 20178 yr Do you mean you have free PCIe X16 slot. You can plug those addon card in it. Your Amazon link's is a 2 port Marvell base card, it is not recommend. I think your order card also Marvell and PCIe x4 (actually run in x2). Edited September 30, 20178 yr by Benson
