best HDD sector size for Unraid &.xx ?

Featured Replies

Hello,

i am planing to upgrade  some of my HHDs for my unraid server - as i was thinking about HGST drives i was overwhelmed with their options of sector sizes and features

so what is the optimal sector size for sata III   .... 4096 or 512:emulated

and what for sas 12GB/s ???

any features like HW encryption and ISE = instant safe erase - do they help or just slow down the performance ???

any idea if there will be a Unraid 64 bit version that supports 64 and 128 GByte of ram ???

cheers alX

unRAID already is 64-bit and there are people using 64Gb+ according to the poll thread...

I am using unRAID on a Dual Xeon MB with 128GB of ram

Model: ASRock Dual X5 Xeons
M/B: ASRock - EP2C602-4L/D16
CPU: Intel® Xeon® CPU E5-2670 0 @ 2.60GHz
HVM: Enabled
IOMMU: Enabled
Cache: 512 kB, 2048 kB, 20480 kB
Memory: 128 GB (max. installable capacity 192 GB)
Network: eth0: 1000 Mb/s, full duplex, mtu 1500
 eth1: not connected
Kernel: Linux 4.9.30-unRAID x86_64
OpenSSL: 1.0.2k

I'm using 6TB HGST NAS drives on it for 78TB capacity.

I have several other unRAID boxes but none are Dual Xeon and none have more than 32GB.

Two  things.

unRAID has been 64-bit for years.

unRAID doesn't support 4Kn drives.

4kn devices are supported since v6.4-rc8.

6.4 supposedly supports 4k drives

Ok, current release version doesn't support 4Kn drives.
