First unRAID build - Help with Case/sas and psu

Featured Replies

Hi there!

I'm actually in the process of planning my first unRAID build, at first will reuse all the material i have around , and am currently trying to decide on some 4U/ 24bay case.

As seen on this forum, was eyeing this Inter tech 4424 (6G backplane with 6xSFF-8087), and got an offer for a never used RSC-4ET (12G backplane with 3xSSF-8643) without PSU for the same price. The second look like better quality.

As i never worked with server case and sas, have some question before buying the second case:

-Is there some advantage, or inconvenient, of the 3x8643 over 6x8087 ?

-Is there some recommanded 8643 HBA ? (if no how to connect other to type HBA to the 3x8643 backplane?)

-Got a Seasonic Prime 1300 Gold (standard ATX) laying around, don't think so but will it fit the RSC-4ET ? Is there non redondant PSU with enought power to use at least 26 drive (WD red and green alike) under 300€ that would be compatible with it ?

and...

-Would you recommend the first or second case ?

Any advice from your experiences with the case would be much appreciated :)

Thanks!
