Upgrading 2 x Parity drives to larger disks

Featured Replies

Sup guys.

Well I've got a failed drive and its currently running emulated and I wish to start the cycle of replacing all the smaller disks. I want to purchase 2 x 8tb drives to replace the parity volumes but unsure what the best cause of action is.

I have attached an image of my current state of affairs. Whats the best process here? Remove Parity 1 and then replace with new 8tb? Wait for parity sync then replace Parity 2?

I would do it in this order.

1. Having already purchased two 8TB drives, remove parity 2 and go down to one parity drive. Use the drive that was parity 2 to replace the failed disk 9.

2. Once parity has rebuilt drive 9, add one of the 8TB drives as parity 2.

3. Once parity has finished making the 8TB drive parity 2, replace the parity drive with the other 8TB drive.

With only 13 data disks, having one parity drive instead of 2 is ok IMO, but that is up to you.

Done.

When I shift Parity 2 to Disk 9 i cannot start the array.

you need to remove parity2 asssignment and start the array so that it forgets that disk. then stop the array and assign the parity2 disk to slot 9 and start the array.

That is correct, sorry for not including that detail.

Cheers that worked.
