unraid keeps freezing - 4 times in 10 days

Featured Replies

Hello, this is my first post as I'm in the process of move from my old Qnap NAS to a new NAS.

So far I have tested Freenas, OVM, Debian 9 ( fsmerge and snapRaid ) and finally what brought me here unraid.

I'm in the trial period for 15 days now, but actively using it for about 10 days. So far I had 4 freezes, so I'm I bit concerned to adopt unraid.

I'm here to ask you guys some support in order to identify what is going on.

The first 3 freezes occurred overnight, I left a rsync process running and in the morning I got no response neither from GUI nor from ssh.   Had to power cycle my server.

This morning was a bit different, it was not really frozen but was kind of unresponsiveness, I had a lot of messages saying that Dynamix plugins had an update, found the only message on syslog to be:

Fatal error:  Allowed memory size of 134217728 bytes exhausted (tried to allocate 132288544 bytes) in /usr/local/emhttp/plugins/dynamix/include/DefaultPageLayout.php(378) : eval()'d code on line 73

After a while all my drives disappeared from the GUI, the message besides the array status was Services initializing... nothing else works.. I had to reboot and boom... another Parity check...

Any advice? Anything I may run or left running to grab logs, since all information is lost after a reboot?

BTW, no docker or VMs was running.

Thank you in advance

Hi -

If the GUI is still working, grab a Tools->Diagnostics.  If you can still ssh into the server, run diagnostics and pull the file from the flash drive.  The diagnostics zip file is what's needed to help diagnose any issues you may be having.  You mentioned Docker and VM, but are you running any plugins?  It would also help if you post your hardware configuration.

Hi,

my hardware specs is listed on my signature.

I don't have access to my unraid right now, I'll list my plugins later today.

Thank you

Hi,

here are the plugins I have installed:

  • CA Auto Update Applications
  • CA Backup / Restore Appdata
  • CA Cleanup Appdata
  • CA Resource Monitor
  • Community Applications
  • Dynamix SSD TRIM
  • Dynamix System Information
  • Dynamix System Statistics
  • Fix Common Problems
  • Nerd Tools
  • Unassigned Devices

Thank you

Option 1 is try booting in safe mode to see if there are issues with any of the plugins.  Option 2 is, if you can't ssh into the server while it is in trouble try getting a diagnostics before it crashes and put Fix Common Problems in Trouble Shooting mode - it will write the log out persistently.
