2 days trial remaining, question about upgrading and changing USB

Featured Replies

I really like unRAID and the last 28 days of using it has been fantastic so I definitely want to buy it. I just have 1 real question.

I want to change the USB that I am currently using because I've noticed it's pretty overkill. I'm using a 64GB USB 3.0 drive that's very, very fast and I'd like to have it back. I'd replace the USB stick with a simple 8GB USB 2.0 stick which seems more than enough to suit what I am doing. Is there an easy way to swap the USB stick without losing the entire configuration, so I could then upgrade on the new stick?

I ask because I'm unsure how the process of swapping the USB goes and the process of upgrading. I assumed that upgrading would mean that I upgrade the license on my current USB stick and then if I wanted to swap it, I'd immediately waste one of the 'yearly swaps' I can do with the license.

Could anyone give me some info?

Use the smaller flash GUID for buying the license, you can then transfer the config from the old one.

Wow it's that easy? Could you please tell me how to transfer the config?

You just need to copy the config folder from the current flash to the new one.

Sorry to resurrect an old(ish) thread but this is exactly the position I'm in - the USB drive I used for the trial is a pretty old one and I think I'd feel better using a newer stick - so in terms of buying unRAID, I assume it will let me just download and register a brand new USB drive (even with the same e-mail address?)and then I what, simply copy over the config folder from /FLASH to the new stick??

Yes, as long a it's not another trial license you can copy the config from the old flash drive.

How exactly do I go about purchasing using a "new" USB flash drive? When I click on the purchase link off the array it links through with the (I assume) existing Flash GUID??

Download unRAID and create the new flash drive, copy the config folder from the old one and upon boot you'll have the option to register.
