Preclear failing on Zeroing after just a few minutes

Hi

I had a disk fail and ordered a new one. It was DOA - tell-tale clicking on power up and not recognised. I got a second one and while it is recognised, preclear is failing when it tries to zero the disk almost immediately. Is this another dead disk? How can I tell? I have seen other posts talk about running extended SMART tests, but I don't know how to do that.
