What do I need to provide to help you guys debug why I can't upgrade?

Featured Replies

I've tried twice (as new versions come out) and when I upgrade I get a kernel panic. Since I can't login I can't get logs and all I can see is what's the screen when it panics. Is there anything I can do to help debug this issue, I really want to upgrade as I'm a few minor versions behind.

First, how much RAM do you have installed on your server?

Second, what method are you using to upgrade?

The reason for these two questions is that upgrading from the WebGUI takes a huge chunk of RAM since the entire file must be downloaded to RAM and upzipped in RAM.  If you don't have about 4GB of RAM installed, that could be the reason for your difficulties.

64GB, I'm just copying bzimage and bzroot to the usb directly.

I think I tried the gui but when it failed to boot up I got nervous because it wans't clear how to go back. Since then I just copy the usb stick and replace those two files.

You need to copy all the bz* files - there should be more than the two you mentioned.

bzroot-gui which probably isn't required.

What are you seeing on a monitor?  (A Good sharp, not-blurred, not flash spot visible in the photo is what is needed.)

This was from last time.

To be clear, 6.2.4 has been stable running for months with zero issues. It's only if I try to upgrade to a newer version that I get this so I can't imagine I have faulty hardware.

Things I've tried:

* Removed non required hardware.

* Fresh install on another USB stick

* memtest

Did you see the boot menu and (1) did both of the bz* files get unzipped and (2) the boot process actually start?
