emsbas
Hello Community I have some questions for a build I am going to be attempting in the near future. I am purchasing an retired Dell R710 Server. See Specs Below Dual Xeon X5670 CPU's Each CPU is a 6 Core @ 2.93GHZ So a total of 12 Cores 24 Threads 32GB of Ram in a 4 x 8GB Layout to allow for Future Expansion. 6 x 3.5 Drive Bays 2 x WD Red 8TB for main storage 1 x 256 GB SSD for Cache Drive 1 x USB 16GB 3.0 PNY for UnRaid R710 Comes with H700 Raid Controller (I know that is not that important) Dual 817 Watt Redundant Power Supplies I am putting in a 10GB SFP DAC Connection to my existing R9000 Router. R9000 Router is running DDWRT. Internet Connection AT&T Fiber 1GB Up / Down with 5 Static IP Addresses (Unlimited Bandwidth) Services I want to Run- NAS or Data Storage and Redundancy Plex Media Server Web Server VM's for toying around with Possibly some game servers (CS:GO / CS:SOURCE) Possibly some VOIP Teamspeak / Ventrillo Based on what you see above is this a good choice for a system. The Server is relatively cheap I got it as you see above out the door with shipping for $430 minus the Hard Drives. Any Recommendations in the setup that I should take in to account. Any existing plugins that would allow me to run a web server / sql / PHP inside of Unraid Any of Hints / Tips / Tricks for a NOOB to unraid. I have a good Computer background knowledge but any advice is welcome. Thanks Community your opinions and experiences are greatly appreciated. Quote Link to comment
ashman70
Nice server, the Dell H700 is important because you won't be able to use it, it doesn't do JBOD mode. You will have to replace it with a different HBA. Quote Link to comment
emsbas
From what I understood if you don't use the H700 the existing drives won't work in sata6 as well they won't recognize 8tb drives. Just going based on what other people are saying. Thanks for the info though. Quote Link to comment
