Upgrading from Version 5beta7 to Version 6.

V5beta7 1 parity, 2 data, nothing else.

 

I have reached the step to run NEW PERMISSIONS. V6 boots with no parity disk or other drives assigned and the array is not started. The upgrade instructions contain “If you still need to assign the drives, then do that now, and once the array is running correctly, run the New Permissions tool.” – Unable to locate any guidance on drive assignment from V5 to V6.

Are the data drives independent or need to be assigned in a certain sequence?

    Just assigned them as they were previously, the only important thing is that parity disk needs to be in the parity slot, data drive order doesn't matter with single parity.
