Parity sync error: please help with diagnostics

Featured Replies

Hi -

Yesterday, after a power failure I got 14,000+ sync errors, then I ran second parity check (with parity correction this time). The second parity check did "correct" all but couple of errors.

Today, I ran the third parity check (hoping I would get 0 errors). However, I ended up with 286 errors, please see the attachment.

Could someone please take a look at my diagnostics and let me know what is causing all these errors?

Thanks,

Sagun

Start by running memtest.

P.S.: SATA ports 5 and 6 are set to IDE, enter your bios and change them to AHCI/SATA.

OK, I'll run the memtest tonight, and change the SATA ports 5 and 6 to SATA from IDE settings.

Thanks!

OK, I ran memtest for 5 passes with 0 errors. Next, I will change ports 5 and 6 to SATA from IDE.

What is the next step from there?

Thanks,

Sagun

You'll need to start testing with different hardware to try and find the problem, after the RAM, the board would be my prime suspect.

Do you thinking, adding a cache drive recently could have anything to do it the sync errors?

  • Community Expert

Not directly, cache has nothing to do with parity in the array, but if there's a hardware issue the new device could make it worse.

Is your power supply adequate and not failing?

Hi Craigr -

Yes, the power supply is sufficient and operational.

Thanks!
