Edition Difference

Featured Replies

Howdo,

I've been running a NAS on an Ubuntu machine using Greyhole for drive pooling and long before that Windows Home Server, a friend told me about unRAID and it sounded a great fit.  Got the trial installed and no regrets!  My only question regards the different editions of the licence, is the only difference the number of drives you can attach?

I ask because I used the unRAID calculator to see what space I'd have free using 3 disks + 1 cache and it suggests I need a pro licence which this page seems to confirm.  That page also says "unRAID 5" though and I can't find reference to needing more than a basic licence for cache use.

If someone could confirm I'd appreciate it, my NAS chassis has four bays and one internal so not going to have more than five disks attached any time soon.

Thanks,

Keegan

Wow, I need to RTFM:

"Are there any feature restrictions on unRAID based on key type?

No.  All unRAID registration keys (including Trial) allow full access to the software’s capabilities.  The only difference between registration key types is the total number of storage devices you are allowed to have attached to the server before starting the array."

Completely missed this in the FAQ despite me thinking I'd read it properly...
