December 3, 20178 yr I dont know much about networking beyond plugging into the router and go. I should've have done my homework before spending over a grand on equipment and unraid.. Anyway here is the sitauation My apartment provides free wifi that requires a browser login. The apartments router cannot be physically accessed I have 2 windows pc's, nvidia shield tv and couple tv's wirelessly connected to the apartment wifi. I have unraid on a pc with not wifi. I had trouble just getting the trial key. After a couple of hours i learned to connect it to my windows pc with shared internet turned on to buy the license. Ok, having said all that, the issue is I cant get unraid to connect to everything over Ethernet. If my pcs connect to unriad via Ethernet, they lose wireless connection to the internet. The nvidia shield can only connect to unraid via wired or wifi, not both. Same for my 2 tvs. So how do I have all my devices, excluding unraid keep wireless internet access and still be able to connect with unraid over Ethernet? If it matters i have a cheap router (no bridge support) and a basic gigabit switch Edited December 3, 20178 yr by mikej
December 3, 20178 yr My best guess, would be to look for a product that can act as a wireless receiver, and then create it's own network. See your apartment building gets the internet from the isp and uses its routers to create a local area network. When u connect to that you are part of that local area network. You need to create ANOTHER local area network that gets its connection to the rest of the world through the apartment wifi. This small network would ideally have your unraid box and tvs and the like attached to it. Unraid out of the box only communicates with computers on its local network. Another reason to do this is security, you wouldn't want everyone in your assortment complex to have unhindered access to your fancy unraid box would u?
