Why not always sync first and remove this option completely? I think if the you are doing a spin down, and some drives are already in spindown state, a sync will cause all drives to spin up first. So it is optional.
May 17, 201016 yr It's the sync command. In the latest Slackware sync wakes up ALL disks regardless if they need to be synched or not. Don't ask me why.
May 18, 201016 yr It's the sync command. In the latest Slackware sync wakes up ALL disks regardless if they need to be synched or not. Don't ask me why. It has always been this way. (as far as I could remember). I don't know if it's regardless if they need to be sync'ed or not. I think it's also based on updating the superblock.
