NAS
In the spirit of 4.5.4 removing stuff that is not needed 99% of the time what is the "Sync filesystems first" tick box optional. Why not always sync first and remove this option completely? Link to comment

Why not always sync first and remove this option completely? I think if the you are doing a spin down, and some drives are already in spindown state, a sync will cause all drives to spin up first. So it is optional. Link to comment
NAS
Perhaps unRAID could sync drives before spin down (if it doesn't already). Link to comment
purko
It's the sync command. In the latest Slackware sync wakes up ALL disks regardless if they need to be synched or not. Don't ask me why. Link to comment

It has always been this way. (as far as I could remember). I don't know if it's regardless if they need to be sync'ed or not. I think it's also based on updating the superblock. Link to comment
