December 10, 20178 yr Hey i want to build an unraid storage server with 12 x 10TB Drives. What is the best way to setup the drives i want to use 2 drives as parity and I will use 2 x 1TB ssd's as a cache pool. So what type of Read performance can i expect from Unraid? I need really good read speed performance so is it possible to get read performance similar to something like a RAID 10 setup? If so whats the best way of configuring it?
December 10, 20178 yr Community Expert UnRAID does not stripe data so the fastest read speeds are going to be constrained by single disk drive read speeds. If you want higher performance then unRAID is probably not the right product for you to be using.
December 10, 20178 yr Author Hey, I saw in the Linustechtips video he was getting much faster performance, so how was that achieved? Edited December 10, 20178 yr by swamiforlife typo
December 10, 20178 yr Author OK, so i am new to Unraid but i think i am missing something. I thought the cache pool was only for writing data. So does it cache data from storage or only reads back data that is in the write cache? So if the write cache is flushed to storage then there will be no read performance benefits right?
December 10, 20178 yr Community Expert The cache can be used in many different ways, but yes, usually for data transfers it's used to cache writes and then the data is moved to the array by the mover, mover runs on a configurable schedule.
