Threadripper PCIE Passthrough Reset (GPU D3) Bug Solution

Featured Replies

Hello!  I've scoured the internet looking for solutions for the GPU D3 bug, and it turns out that a particularly technical user on Reddit has come up with a kernel patch.  I'm posting a link to the topic in the hope we can get it included in a future prerelease until there is proper kernel support for it.  In the thread, he walks through the reasons for the bug, and the steps he took in tracking it down, which is a great read even if you aren't plagued by this issue.

With the help of CHBMB's post here, one may be able to compile a new kernel to use in the meantime, although I'm not sure how germane that is to the subject.  It used to be that'd be not that hard for me, for now I might need a little help and/or time to figure out how to compile the kernel with the changes.  Use it or lose it, right?

I'd be interested to know more. I'm currently thinking of upgrading to TR. Been wanting to pull the trigger, but only just started lurking to it's current over-all state.

Edit: Thank you for the post, and by proxy, putting this on my radar. Good day.

I attempted to add the fix to the kernel myself, but while it would boot, it wouldn't allow for the 'tower' interface to be accessible.  Ideally, one of the powers-that-be would add it to the actual release, since it's only 4 lines of code in the pci.c file, and shouldn't cause an issue for non-threadripper machines (as it's basically just echoing the contents of the bus memory back to the bus).  I've got my fingers crossed, at any rate.

check this thread, they released an updated version of the bzimage file for unraid off of the main release candidate that they are testing.

Thanks so much for that!  Something really weird is going on with the forums for me.  I can't see that topic at all aside from the direct link.  I can't even see THIS topic expect through direct link. Oi!
