Mounting Encrypted Drive After Reboot

Featured Replies

I’m on 6.4 rc15e and I setup an encrypted drive and everything was fine. Now I have rebooted my server and the encrypted disk appears with the unlock picture, but it says “Unmountable: Encrypted Volume Present.” Am I missing something or is there no way to mount encrypted drives yet?

The drive should mount normally if the correct encryption key is entered at array start, post your diagnostics, though not much experience with encrypted drives on the forum yet.

This is normal, after reboot the keyfile is not present and passphrase/file needs to be re-entered. On the Main page you will see "missing key".

I do not see "missing key" on the Main Page in I assume Array Operations. I just added a new drive to the array and the option to format it is the only thing there (that is out of the ordinary), except it is offering to format both the new drive and the encrypted drive. Drive 6 is my encrypted drive and there is a little unlocked lock image and when I hover it says "Device Encrypted and Unlocked." I have not been able to input the key anywhere since I first selected it a week ago.

clarification

The setting of your disk6 was changed from encrypted to non-encrypted (XFS), that's why formatting is requested and since it WAS the only encrypted device in your array there is no longer the need to enter an encryption passphraes or key.

If you want to have your disk6 stay encrypted you need to change the file system setting back to "XFS encrypted".

Your disk7 is a new disk without any file system on it, and needs to be formatted. Current setting is no encryption enabled on this disk.

Ps. You still have some reiserFS formatted disks. It is recommended to use XFS.

Yes, I’m transitioning the data to new disks and reformatting the old ones to XFS.

So all I need to do is stop the array and change the format back to encrypted-xfs and then when I start the array, it’ll ask for the key?
