December 15, 20178 yr Apparently there is a process that recovers files from a disk when there are errors during parity check? Earlier this year I had a drive (Disk 8 ) have some problems and there were 23 parity check errors. While looking at another problem, I noticed the "Lost & Found" directory. Given there are files there, does this mean I have corrupted data on Disk 8? Is there a way to identify which files have the issue? Screenshot of Lost & Found Directory Contents Thanks in advance!
December 15, 20178 yr Parity check will not recover files to lost & found. Parity doesn't care about files or file system, but writes directly to the disk where the bit is wrong. I'm probably wrong also, but I guess @johnnie.black will correct me if that is the case Files in lost & found is from a file system check/repair.

December 15, 20178 yr Community Expert You can try opening them with various programs to try and find what they were and if they are important or not, size is good clue for the type of file it can be, they can also be partial or corrupt files unable to be opened easily, requiring more difficult file analyzing.

Yes, if there is a file system corruption and a file that the file system has lot track of is fragmented then the lost and found directory may end up with one file for each fragment of the original file.
