Questions about cache pools

Featured Replies

Hey guys so I have a few questions about cache pools. I am about to add another drive to act as the second cache and would like to know exactly what I can do with it.

Currently I am running an intel 120GB ssd as the single cache drive. I plan to add a 1TB hard drive into the cache pool. Is there a way to tell unraid to use the ssd first and then use the hard drive if the ssd gets filled? Also are there certain modes I can run the cache pool in? Such as maybe a mirror mode where the cache pool could be working similar to RAID 1 would work?

Thanks guys! I will wait your responses while I mess around with the cache.

Not currently.

Nice! That is a bummer that I can't make a pool act like a hybrid so that maybe apps and dockers run of the SSDs and maybe a specified VM and then everything else like files getting moved around going to the hard drive. I did find out about the modes. Right now I am running it in the JBOD mode and it runs well. I assume the raid 0 mode would make the pool run at the smallest drive?

There's some work going on right now on making btrfs prefer an SSD for reads when a pool has both an SSD and HDD, no idea how long till it's done though.

Correct, you'd get twice the size of the smallest drive.
